What's Black, White and Red All Over? A Game Kicking Your Ass – MadWorld
by Vahnikopa on Mar.15, 2009, under Review, Wii
Something for all you blood lusting Wii owners, it’s MadWorld by Platinum Games. With the drought of something worthwhile, MadWorld will delight all out there who owns a Wii. Carefully crafted by Platinum Games, the former developers of Clover Studio, you know it’s going to bring own the bacon.
MadWorld is stylized game, consisting of mainly three colors – if you haven’t guessed already. Taking the look from Sin City, MadWorld does it extremely well. The graphical presentation is nice, smooth and creamy; or rather, nice to look at as the spectrum is actually really fitting for the game. The game does a good job making the world, well Mad, as it seems to a broken down trash heap of no humanity left. The level design sports good variety as no two levels looks the same, giving out nice atmosphere to the bloodshed that is all around you. (continue reading…)

UP UP DOWN DOWN Where the Hell are the Cheats?

“So I was playing some B-Ball with some of the boys and I was knocking their ass to the curve. I decided to show off by jumping off another guy’s back and do a twirling slam dunk but then my head grew three times in size and I caught on fire.”
Well that’s just absurd, yet sounds oddly familiar, so familiar in fact, it was in a lot game in the nineties, specifically as the “Big Head” cheat. Well, what’s the point of that? To add some humor and fun without distracting from the gameplay, it was a “cheat” that didn’t side with the player or help the game; it was there just for fun. Oh, there was numerous cheats that were available to play around with, things to just screw around with. Not like those other do nasty cheats that give you infinite lives or something, but even those are somewhat lost in time to grant something to the player.

To You Who Stands in my Footprints, the Youth of Gaming
by Vahnikopa on Mar.03, 2009, under Opinions, Rant
I was once a young lad and when I was young I first started playing the original Nintendo Entertainment System. Among the plethora of games to choose from, the very first game I played was Super Mario Bros., which I enjoyed so much. I grew and played the Super Nintendo and the Genesis, grew some more and played the next generation, and the rest is history. Now as a full grown adult, I still play video games, I have friends who play video games, and my friends have kids who play video games – wee ones, at the age of eight.

When the Hell is it Ever Good Enough?
by Vahnikopa on Mar.02, 2009, under Rant
Back in preschool, I learned how to count, that there is a certain order to numbers and that one number will be bigger than the other number by simply adding to it. So therefore six was bigger than five but seven was bigger than six. Ten was also a high number so was the number next to it, nine, and then finally eight. What the hell am I talking about? The fact that these three numbers, eight, nine, and ten are high numbers, in fact, so high I don’t really care when one game gets a single point over another game, but then we bring in our friends the decimals and everything is fucked, because now we have ten more digits to comprehend in this wild world of numbers.
Review scores, using a ten point scale which has a scale within itself which adds ten more measly points within those already redundant ten points. A number like nine-point-two is obviously bigger than nine-point-one but what the shit is the difference between that whole tenth of a point? There are many reasons why the point system for rating games is so bad. If you have read any of my reviews, you would know I never actually use a point system which makes you, actually read the review – instead the point system makes people go into cock wars on which number is better.
Fragilicious Fun, it's time for Quake Live
by Vahnikopa on Mar.01, 2009, under PC, Review
Sometime ago, there was this fast pace game with absolutely no need for story and the game was just pure action – you jump in, kick ass, and come back another time. It was the time for Quake III, this frag fest was all about the game play and action, and it still is with a new incarnation – Quake Live. Quake III was one of my favorite games of all times and getting into the Quake Live beta, I creamed my pants. But the closed beta is over, and the game is in open beta to all the public to play and for free.

Simple Fun and Bright Colors, it's Noby Noby Boy!
by Vahnikopa on Feb.27, 2009, under PS3, Review
Something a bit different from the creator of Katamari Damacy, it’s Noby Noby Boy. Something a bit different than your mature games for mature people, it’s something a bit more wholesome that everyone can enjoy, from children to grandmothers, societal worker bees to drugged out chumps, etc. I’m sure the Noby Noby Boy can appeal to anyone out there who have some sort of a heart.
Fun, Fans, and Fantatics
by Vahnikopa on Feb.24, 2009, under Rant
“Ah, what a wonderful game, I mean, it haves everything to make it good – but what’s this? A fanbase? Well, that ain’t so bad. Huh? Furry porn of my favorite character? Ranting lunatics worshiping it like a god? Yaoi fangirls writing fanfiction? A group of anal asshats turned it tourney haven? That twelve year old kid down the street likes it?
Well fuck this game, I hate it now and I don’t what to look at it ever again.”
An all too common statement I hear among the crowd, it implies that somehow, a fun and enjoyable game becomes the scourge of humanity simply because other people like it. How is this possible? Don’t know, you tell me but if I had to guess, it has something to do with the sparkling golden high horse that gamers sit on top of these days. A form a super elitism thinking that their own specific obscure niche are the only people allowed to enjoy the game – like some dilapidated tree house with the sign “boys only”.

In the Sun, We are the Manchildren of the Future
by Vahnikopa on Feb.23, 2009, under Rant
Every one of us enjoys gaming, for entertainment, for story, for escapism, etc. The industry has seen this and thus created the portable gaming device, oh how wonderful these devices are! After all, they give us the gaming we need when we are outside.
“Outside? Like in the Sun?”
Yeah outside, something you all have experienced before (I hope). What I am getting at is the fact the game companies make these fantastic devices and yet you guys only play them in the dank dungeon of your room. I am sure most of you have jobs, school, or something that involves you getting out of your house but why leave your lonely portable gaming device behind?

The Gaijin Reviews: Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekidō
by Vahnikopa on Feb.17, 2009, under Review, Wii

Now something for you importers out there, I am reviewing Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekidō (涼宮ハルヒの激動). To tell all readers out there right now, I have no background in Japanese whatsoever so I am simply basing this judgment on gameplay and presentation alone. Also to note, I do not watch the Suzumiya Haruhi series or do I intend to, I just wanted a Wii game where I can dance like a faggot, and well I sort of got what I wanted.
So jumping into the fray with no knowledge of the franchise or any understanding the Japanese language, I decided to give this game a try. Thinking to myself, all I really wanted to do is to dance with the Wii’s motion controls – after all, who wouldn’t? Let’s start off to say that the presentation is on par with Wii games, the animations are good and the music is fine. The music, which I believe, is straight out of the anime series and despite never actually watching the series, I have to admit, the music was pretty good. (continue reading…)
