Fun, Fans, and Fantatics

“Ah, what a wonderful game, I mean, it haves everything to make it good – but what’s this? A fanbase? Well, that ain’t so bad. Huh? Furry porn of my favorite character? Ranting lunatics worshiping it like a god? Yaoi fangirls writing fanfiction? A group of anal asshats turned it tourney haven? That twelve year old kid down the street likes it?

Well fuck this game, I hate it now and I don’t what to look at it ever again.”

An all too common statement I hear among the crowd, it implies that somehow, a fun and enjoyable game becomes the scourge of humanity simply because other people like it. How is this possible? Don’t know, you tell me but if I had to guess, it has something to do with the sparkling golden high horse that gamers sit on top of these days. A form a super elitism thinking that their own specific obscure niche are the only people allowed to enjoy the game – like some dilapidated tree house with the sign “boys only”.

Instead of avoiding the cooties, just take the damn shot and go along with it. You are as much as a fan as any other deviantart faggot out there who may draw furry porn, obesity fetish, emo shit or diapers. The only difference is that you express your fandom in a different way than the others around you. So I find it absolutely absurd that one would stop liking a game simply because of the fanbase, it’s just as bad as uptight indie music douches – because once it has an audience beyond you, it’s bad.

A perfect example of this is Final Fantasy VII. Before you go all “the game does suck” and all that jazz, did it ever occur to you that you might be on the internet for a bit too long? Let me go on, because I was once too a person just like that. As a child, I enjoyed FFVII and played it for hours on end and then the internet came. I saw how other fans made it out to be and how the anti-fans, trolls, and so forth bash the game with somewhat intelligible reasons. From that point on, I would really believe that I hate it, until I played it again. I never really hated it, I just jumped on the gravy train and that push was the fans, because the fans turned into something I didn’t like. BUT that didn’t stop me from actually enjoying the game. I don’t think the game is godsend, but I do like it and I feel that there are others out there who simply hate it because of the all the emo bullshit, retarded fanfictions, and all the other scum that spewed forth from the internet.

Of course, it’s just not the fans but the trolls as well. Because every single person on the internet doesn’t like the game you like, shouldn’t stop you from liking the game. Even if some cockface on the internet writes a fifty page essay on why the game sucks, shouldn’t change your opinion if the game actually sucks. Of course, this can go same with professional reviewers, just because one guy says it sucks doesn’t mean it does, you just have to try it out for yourself. But that would mean to read the review, instead of just looking at the number.

There are many other games out there such as Sonic series, Kingdom Hearts, Smash Brothers, etc; that suffer from the same fate for the simple fact that once a game becomes more popular the more retarded fans begin to sprout up. The fact of the matter is that you shouldn’t care about the fanbase at all, just completely ignore and just have fun with your games. If the game is fun and enjoyable, play it. Don’t let retards ruin your fun.
