Bioshock: Well Dressed
by Auouywonz on Mar.15, 2009, under Consoles, Opinions, PC, PS2, PS3, Rant, xbox 360
Bioshock, now infamous amongst gamers of all seasoning, shook the industry by proving singleplayer gaming was NOT dead. It proved Co-op was not necessary to be interesting, that multiplayer modes were not mandatory in an FPS, and that stupid plot lines and outrageous characters would not feel out of place in a serious tone. For lots of reasons, Bioshock was a great game, but for one, it killed the experience for me. Right now, I’m going to warn you, if you have not played the game, I cannot assure you I won’t spoil it. I’m going to talk as if you have finished it, so spoilers potentially start HERE.====================== (continue reading…)
Mass Effect 2: More Effects
by Peter on Feb.21, 2009, under News, Opinions, Preview
The first Mass Effect was a great game, it had an amazing back story, suitable combat mechanics, and an great choice system. This was the first game I’ve played that I felt that my choices actually altered the game (sorry Fable). The only flaws in the game were poor conversational paths, extremely repetative side missions, graphical glitches, and an extremely ineffective inventory system. Although overal I had an extremely enjoyable time when playing Mass Effect. Enough fun that I felt it necessary to beat the game four times. It’s a bit obvious that I’m a big fan of immersive RPGs, so hearing news about Mass Effect 2 naturally gets me all wet and excited, and what better to get me moist than small teaser that Bioware has released for the game on their Mass Effect 2 website.
Watch over the trailer, it doesn’t take that long. If you’ve played the first Mass Effect you may be a bit concerned about the “Status: Killed in Action” that flashes
on the screen. Does this suggest that Shepard (the main character from Mass Effect), is dead? I hope not. Shepard is one bad ass dude, at least the Shepard I created is. Still, Well we can see a Geth creature in his suit, which could mean perhaps he’s been captured by the Geth and has been reconstructed as one. That’s just wishful thinking though. One this is for sure though, if Mass Effect 2 is anything like the first, I’ll be a happy customer.
On a side note, what the hell is up with the whole trend of adding boxes to your logos, I mean first Mirror’s Edge and now Mass Effect 2? Boxes are pretty trendy.
Play These Games: RPG Edition 2

What’s that? More RPGs? Alright, alright… I’ve got more RPGs for yah. Sit back, relax and prepare for some good ones!
Etrian Odyssey 1 & 2
I’m not gonna lie to you. If you want a challenge, if you want a serious RPG, then this is the game for you. There aren’t flashy graphics, there are only stats, items, monsters and a very cool map-making system. You and your party of adventurers goes down into a dungeon few go into to find the treasure. You can pick classes, have as many members as you want. but can only carry a few around. The monsters get viciously difficult to kill very quickly. The battle system is your standard turns based on speed/surprise factor. Lots of fun, but I’m warning you now: Almost as addictive as an MMO(but so much cheaper!). I thoroughly enjoyed them, even if the god damn F.O.E.s obliterated me for days.

Gears of War 2 Review

Gears of War 2, "breaking news: skulls look awesome"
So you powered through Gears of War in a day or two with your friends on co-op (or by yourself, you poor lonely soul) on an energy drink rave with spare time on your hands. What next, an old question with an old answer, the sequel.
Gears of War Two, oh boy! Who doesn’t love the great Marcus Fenix, war hero or Augustus Cole the loveable and muscular ebony soldier of brute force….and Dominic Santiago their Hispanic friend. Oh yeah and Baird that really smart white guy, that almost every FPS has, like half-life and Gordon Freeman, or Call of Duty 4 and the entire British army SAS (Special Air Service) team. For all you Halo fans thinking about Master Chief, remember, he MAY be a black guy under that Spartan helmet.
Gears of War – Metagaming In The Forefront
by Auouywonz on Dec.18, 2008, under Consoles, Developers, Opinions, Review, Uncategorized, xbox 360
What is Gears of War? Is Cliff Bleszinski really all that talented? Gears of War is a welcome change of pace. Cliffy B. is talented, his writers aren’t, and I’m probably going to get flak for saying this, but neither are his artists. The Gears setting is gross and putrid and ugly and unsightly; a blight on this Earth. However, the gameplay hidden beneath is gold. Say what you will about its shotgun and chainsaw dominance, but the game is a mystical piece of work. I don’t like Cliffy, I think he’s a douche, I think he’s stupid, I think he’s a cliche typical fratboy out to please them as far as the context of Gears goes; but when it comes to gameplay and content, he shines. I respect his choices with GoW, the first and the second. He designed a game that was no longer about skill and dexterity with the analog sticks, and it’s not about holding down the trigger. It’s about timing. To be a bit speculative, it’s the future of turn based gaming.
