Are you ready to tread through horrible voice acting and predictable story line to get to the mech on mech action? Hope you are because Robot Alchemic Drive (RAD) for the Playstation 2 contains all the above; developed by Sandlot and published by Enix (not Square Enix you pre-teen gaming mongoloid). RAD offers something different to the mech fans out there as well to those who are nostalgic for bad anime dubbing.

Mischief Makers

The Nintendo 64 system had its fair share of gems for its time. Everyone knows aboutmischief_makers Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, and even Goldeneye, probably the only truly successful movie based game. However, there were also games that had a small cult following. Mischief Makers, which was done by Enix in a cooperative effort with Treasure, before the merger occured, has such a following.

The premise in Mischief Makers is relatively simple: the professor has been kidnapped, and as the main character, Ultra-Intergalactic-Cybot G Marina Lightyears, you need to rescue him. However, the story isn’t the main aspect of the game, but rather, the unique gameplay mechanics. Everything centers around three things: Grab, shake, and throw. This is where the charm of Mischief Makers really shines forth.

Just about every single enemy and object can be affected by the three actions listed above, and each has a different effect depending on circumstances. Grabbing an enemy, for example, and shaking him can make him drop health items or currency. After that, you can throw him as a projectile to damage other enemy units.

Why A Final Fantasy VII Remake is More Likely Than You Think

While the popular game media does it’s best to avoid fanboy warfare, constant articles about the PS3 needing to be “saved” by games, movies, price drops etc. create an eternal sense of hopelessness around the console. Although it has not sold as well as the xbox 360 or the Wii, it is still doing a brisk business in its own right. With Christmas on the rise and a slew of exclusive games to be released, it seems the PS3 will see a marked success in 2009 even amidst the economic crisis. In the back of our heads however, there has always been one game that we knew could save the PS3 if its stock began falling: Final Fantasy 7.
