O Gamer, Gamer, What the Hell Are You Gamer?
by Vahnikopa on Feb.12, 2009, under Opinions, Rant
After nearly half of century of development and the synergy of growing technology, video games have become a major part of modern society, an interactive form of entertainment. Separating itself from moving pictures, sequential notes, and walls of words; gaming is unique as it combines all three of these mediums, maybe even fourth, the sweaty test of endurance, with the rise of the Wii. But with all these ways one can entertain oneself, what do we call people who read books? Readers? Who enjoy music? Listeners? How about movie goers? Watchers? At least we have a definite term for people who play sports – athletes.
What am I getting at is the term “Gamer”. Does the culture as a whole really accept to call themselves “Gamers” and not “one who plays video games?”. I truly and always have hated the term “gamer” (and don’t bother pointing out that this place use to be called gamerblag). There are many reason why I might hate the term or maybe I just hate the people who use it.

A Female Portion

It’s laughable, really. To think, something so simple as being would disturb so many. It’s actually quite entertaining to watch the ensuing chaos and havoc convulse within forums. It’s not that big a deal: being a girl. At least, I don’t think so. Some people, however, find it somewhat aggravating, and if that same girl finds interest in being a gamer, then God help us all.
A distaste for women is not uncommon in shunned young males and homosexuals. There’s especially no reason that women should be privy to our exclusive club. Should these harpies find the fixation enjoyable and maybe want to share in the community, then they are attention whoring succubi set to efface the life of fun from gamers and games.
My trivial jests aside, I do find that I occasionally agree with the face value of these words. There are some groups of girls that furrow the Hellfire conniptions in my membrane. But the thing is: These people aren’t stupid because they’re gamer girls; they’re stupid because they’re Goddamn retards. Stupid people come in all shapes and sizes–Black, White, male, female, etc.–and there’s nothing wrong with that; we need idiots. You couldn’t be thought of as intelligent if they weren’t devoid of thought. Basically, you just gotta’ recognize that these particular women stand out because they’re so offensively vapid. Trust me, the smart ones in any medium are out there, you just have to look.
Adversely, it’s those very same intelligent women that are sought out heatedly in the male and lesbian gaming community. Every time even a hint of a woman is let slip over the VoIP, the entire session is flung out the window in order to appeal to the maybe-woman, whilst a few cry “shenanigans!” in the unheard background. It’s an interesting foil. Whence absent, it is at our behest to berate women at every stand-point, but when present, it is ours to be alluring so as to perhaps entrance one of these lucid creatures in the off-chance they’ll grant us video game-fueled intercourse. I want to say it’s funny, but it’s really just puerile as Hell.
In situations of attraction and relationships (which I shouldn’t get into, but let’s be honest here: this is what you want to hear), the best thing any man can do is respect himself enough to not put on some air and respect the woman enough so that she feels comfortable. I reiterate that this isn’t an advice column for your love woes, but I will quickly say that if you’re on the market, you shouldn’t search by hobby’s alone. Your hobby’s can lead to one another in the real world, certainly, and when and if they do, you’ll know almost instantly if you’ll work out based on whether you can be yourself with one another without major complication. It’s pretty simple really. Basically, just quit ruining my games because you’re so ronery.
- On a technical side note: based on human social and psychology: couples of similar or equal intelligence tend to gravitate to one another and tend to get along most fine. Something to think about.
All that nonsense aside, if I say one thing in this, it’s that there’s no need to generalize these girls. In all earnestness, there are things out there that are so much more androgynously horrid.
