The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf Debut Trailer Analysis

Geralt’s back, and this time he looks sharper than ever in this debut trailer of the upcoming PS3/Xbox 360 title The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf. Announced as a console port of the 2007 PC sleeper hit, The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf aims to immerse the console player in the dark and mysterious world of the original, and at the same time offer a new experience via a new engine and a new action-based combat system.

Looking at the trailer, we definitely get the idea that it’s going to be more of a combat-oriented experience this time around. Geralt looks sufficiently badass in this trailer, practing some very sharp-looking moves with quick cuts featuring combat with a pack of feral wolves and a huge stone golem. The motion-capturing of this particular trailer is superbly done, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who wishes that the same kind of style and awesomeness carry over to the actual movements of Geralt in-game.

Game developers, this is how you make a port. Make the changes between the versions actually relevant and noteworthy. Heck, make it a new experience altogether, that way people who have played the prior versions would find it irresistible to play the upcoming one, just to see what it’s all about. CD Projekt’s got the right idea.

The port itself will be handled by CD Projekt RED, and the new engine made with the participation of WideScreen games.
